FAQs
What is the current coverage area?
The Chicago metropolitan area is currently covered including Northwest Indiana
I’m currently using a 2-way radio system that operates from Willis (Sears) Tower for my Company. How is Diga-Talk different?
Your 2-way radios are limited to the range of one tall building in Chicago. Diga-Talk also uses tall buildings in Chicago for coverage, but uses many other radio towers throughout the region for complete coverage. This results in communications coverage throughout the entire region.
Do my employees have to “switch channels” as they travel the Diga-Talk coverage area?
No the Diga-Talk radio’s automatically roams throughout the region as you travel. The Diga-Talk radio operates in a cellular fashion where the radio switches to the closest tower for the best available signal.
My company currently uses Nextel. Can my employees make telephone calls or Direct Connect calls to friends and family with my Diga-Talk radio?
No. The Diga-Talk radio only communicates with the other Diga-talk radios in your fleet. We can however provide a special gateway that will allow Diga-Talk units to communicate with your Company’s Nextel direct connect units.
Can the Diga-Talk radio in my delivery truck be used to tell me the trucks location?
Yes. Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) is an optional feature available with a Diga-Talk mobile radio.
How does the AVL option work?
A GPS receiver is embedded in a GPS-enabled Diga-Talk radio. AVL service is optional and can be added at any time. The vehicle’s location is sent when the vehicle is started or turned off. Location is also sent every time the Diga-talk’s microphone is keyed. The current location can also be “polled” from software loaded on a PC.
What is needed at my office to utilize the AVL option?
AVL Software can be installed on one or more PCs to monitor your fleet. The software will show the last reported location of your vehicles on a map. Location history is also stored for reporting.
Can Diga-Talk tell me when my tow truck tows a car?
Yes. Diga-Talk radios have inputs and outputs (I Os) that can be connected to items like your PTO. When the PTO is engaged the Diga-Talk radio will send a signal to your AVL software telling the vehicle number, the event, time and location.
I currently use 2-way radios in my business, can my current radios be used on the Diga-Talk system?
Most likely not, however we have a very generous trade-in program available.
Can the Diga-Talk radio receive an e-mail?
Yes. Diga-Talk has an e-mail server connected to the public Internet in place. Each radio can be configured with its own e-mail address, ie xxxxx-xxxxx@mobile.diga-talk.com.
I would like to start out with the least expensive rate plan that provides only coverage from only one tower site. How will I be sure that this will cover my area of operation?
We provide a no-charge demonstation for you to be sure that you will be happy with the system coverage. Even after you purchase your Diga-Talk units and you find that you need additional coverage let us know. We can usually modify your coverage area within 24 hours.
